Amazon.co.uk Review Full of verve and wit Shrek is a computer-animated adaptation of William Steig's delightfully fractured fairy tale. Our title character (voiced by Mike Myers) is an agreeable enough ogre who wants to live his days in peace. When the diminutive Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) evicts local fairy tale creatures (including the now-famous Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio and the Gingerbread Man), they settle in the ogre's swamp and Shrek wants answers from Farquaad. A quest of sorts starts for Shrek and his new pal, a talking donkey (Eddie Murphy), where battles have to be won and a princess (Cameron Diaz) must be rescued from a dragon lair in a thrilling action sequence. The story is stronger than most animated fare but it's the jokes that make Shrek a winner. The PG rating is stretched when Murphy and Myers hit their strides. The mild potty humour is fun enough for the 10-year-old but will never embarrass their parents. Shrek is never as warm and inspired as the Toy Story films, but the realistic computer animation and a rollicking soundtrack keeps the entertainment in fine form. Produced by DreamWorks, the film also takes several delicious stabs at its cross-town rival, Disney. --Doug Thomas, Amazon.com

Brilliant DVD August 26, 2010 N. Chouhan (UK) My son is a big fan of Shrek films. However the original film is the best and keeps him quiet for the whole duration. An excellent investment to any kids DVD collection.
Shrek- Quick Review June 29, 2010 Mr. C. Stoker Although it has been out for many years now, Shrek has remained one of my favourite animated films. It has a brilliant plot, which I will not spoil, very good script and great voice work from Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and many more esteemed actors. It is enjoyable for all ages, and there are some jokes that will go right over the head of younger audiences, such as the references to to the massive castle (if you watch you'll understand).
All in all, excellent film that is as good today as it was almost a decade ago when it was released. My, doesn't time fly?
A wonderfully original animated film for adults as well as kids May 12, 2010 K. Gordon Utterly original, terrific animated film, with great voice performances by Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy,
written with lots of adult wit and humor. Word play and visual puns abound. You don't have to be a kid to love it,
or have kids to rent or buy it. Charming, sweet, funny and romantic.
Amazing, hip use of music (including John Cale's version of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'- how's that for obscure?).
On DVD, make sure to get the widescreen version, so you don't lose chunks of the lovely visuals on the sides of the frame.
Animated fun April 11, 2010 amzonuser Funny characters, ridiculous situations and a great take on all the silly fairytale stuff in an entertaining way. The best of the series.
Great Movie. January 8, 2010 Mr. S. Newbury (London, England) One of the best movies for years. Such a good watch for all ages and one of those films your happy to watch again and again. Superb.
