Amazon.co.uk Review The first series of Gavin and Stacey brought the show richly-deserved BAFTA recognition, and left the two title characters married by the time it came to an end. Series two picks things up from there, as they settle into married life, and the challenges that ultimately brings. Never forgetting its comedic roots, Gavin and Stacey now follows the pair, and the collection of characters around them, as they adjust to married life. It doesn’t take, for instance, for Stacey’s homesickness to kick in, while the programme also takes time to spend time with their friends, Nessa and Smithy, as they too evaluate their relationship (and impending baby!). In lesser hands, Gavin and Stacey’s ingredients could easily go sour. But thanks to some terrific scripting, and quite exceptional performances, it gels superbly well. Much of the credit should go, of course, to Mathew Home and Joanna Page’s endearing performances in the title roles, as well as James Corden and Ruth Jones for their exceptional writing work (the pair also play the aforementioned Nessa and Smithy in the show). Eschewing gimmicks and cheap lines in favour of three dimensional characters and genuine laughs, Gavin and Stacey is a television gem, and one that deserves to find a wider audience. Hopefully, this DVD release will help to redress that. --Jon Foster

This is a good follow up to series 1, having belated started to watch the series, me and my wife love it. Fully recommended.
Amazingly life afirming February 23, 2010 Michael Hedley (Perthshire, Scotland) I have only got into Gavin & Stacey in the turn of the New Year. I ignored the hype when the first season came out, again with the second season and even with the Christmas special with that blinking song ringing in my ears, I ignored it all. I almost managed to ignore the third season, but with very little on iplayer and lying in bed suffering from a pretty bad cold, I had little option but to test the water. It was amazing! I'm a huge fan of British sitcoms, films, comedy, etc. I find the humour perfect for me as it seems to always find the balance between silliness and wit, something comedy from across the pond really struggles with. The reason why I couldn't bring myself to watch it when it first came out was basically it appeared to be one of those newest comedies in Britain which is aimed at the solely under educated, relying on cheep gags, sex and swearing to sell to any kind of audience it can find. You've probably seen them arrive on bbc 3, born from the unfeasible rise of 'two pints of larger and a packet of crisps.' That show makes me cringe and I guess I associated Mr James Cordon with that sort of comedy. Boring, lifeless, trying too hard and made it too far too soon. And he's not fantastic in the DVD either, not the strongest of actors or comedies, but hats off to him for writing such a fun series. Not taking away anything from Ruth Jones' writing ability, they've both done a fantastic job. Difference is Ruth's performance and timing is so spot on that you forget Ruth is Nessa.
Anyway, my point is that if you have been put off by the hype, by the recent run of terrible comedy shows or just by Cordon like I was, I urge you to give this a go, it is really, really funny and you don't take long in associating with the characters. It'll put your faith back into British comedy and you'll be smiling and giggling the whole way through.
Never wanted it to end February 17, 2010 Becky (Hampshire, Uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Didn't start watching Gavin and Stacey on TV untill the 3rd series so then bought Series 1 and 2 - once we started watching we didn't want to stop. It's hilarious and moving. It put everything we'd seen in the 3rd series into cntext and made it even more funny. Now I can't wait to watch them all over again and get hold of the Christmas specials etc.
It's well lush!!! February 3, 2010 K. A. Burton 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Only became a fan of this series on the 3rd series, so sad it was the last. Best sitcom in ages. Ordered from Amazon a few days after christmas and although I was told there would be a delay, I guess as it has gone up in popularity recently, I still had the dvd within just over a week. Brilliant!
