Amazon.co.uk Review
The corridors of Whitehall have, of course, proved a rich trough for comedy in the past, but sitting among the finest must be The Thick Of It, a terrific, insightful and desperately entertaining satire.

This complete first season follows the antics of Hugo Abbot, a simple MP, whose ongoing fight with his party's spin doctors provides just one richly mined strand for the show. Skilfully mixing drama and comedy, and shot in the increasingly popular fly-on-the-wall documentary style, The Thick Of It manages to be both laugh-out-loud funny, yet eerily scary at the same time.

The credit, clearly, lies with the brains and the cast behind the programme. In front of the camera, both Chris Langham and the seemingly-brutal Peter Capaldi have won the plaudits, but much of the acclaim also needs lying at the doorstep of Armando Iannucci. Iannucci already has a comedy CV that few can rival, both in front of and behind the lens, and it's testament to the quality of The Thick Of It that it stands next easily next to anything in his back catalogue.

This unmissable DVD brings together all the episodes from the little-seen-yet-rarely-rivalled maiden season (although the Christmas special is missing), and it's a real comedy treat. Bluntly, The Thick Of It is a modern day classic, and through the DVD release, more people can finally get the chance to see why. --Jon Foster

1 out of 5 stars IS THIS THE BEST THEY CAN DO ... FUNNY, DONT THINK SO   June 18, 2010

I can't believe the reviews on this page.
1) The camera jerks about as though the operator has Parkinsons
2) If you take out the 'f' word, at least half the dialogue would be missing

It could have been funny, the plot idea was good, but didn't laugh out loud once.
I watched episodes 1-3 grinding my teeth at the constant constant language. A few minutes into episode 4,
I switched off. This was worse than lavatory humour.
Can't believe it received awards - where the hell are we at?
There is no warning about the language on the cover and I WOULD LIKE MY MONEY BACK.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   June 2, 2010

Brilliant from start to finish. The script, performances and the production values are second to none.

The price I got this for was remarkable and it was delivered on time.

Given as a present to a friend, so I have not watched it.

5 out of 5 stars Irreverent, Hilarious & Compulsive Viewing   May 21, 2010

Having only seen The Thick Of It with Rebecca Front as the unfortunate MP Nicola Murray, I was interested in seeing Chris Langham's incarnation - Hugh Abbott MP. His character is excellent and brings a deviousness coupled with Teflon coated shoulders that makes me wonder why I didn't watch it originally on TV because it was brilliant from the start. I'm not a big fan of excessive or unwarranted swearing (especially in the pub) but every F word issued by Peter Capaldi as Malcolm Tucker is essential to making this as wonderful as it is. Looking forward to watching the Thick Of It Specials next with eager anticipation.

5 out of 5 stars ----ing Brilliant   April 9, 2010
Stephen (Nottingham UK)
This is one of the best sitcom ever shown on British Tv, sorry on tv. It is up there with the best and in the past ten years I put it only just below Green Wing. And now here is the bad news if you don't like the odd swear word then you will not like this as its full of them. So I surgest you grim and bear it as its Fantastic.
If I could give it 10 stars I would still give it 11.
A MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
