Amazon.co.uk Review It's hard to rain too many superlatives on The Blue Planet, surely one of the finest and most fascinating nature documentaries ever made. But nonetheless, we're going to try.Long in the making, the idea behind the show was to, using some cutting-edge technology, film previously unseen areas of the ocean, and to investigate life beneath the waves. And in doing so, it pretty much encompasses the full spectrum of creature size. From the staggering, gigantic whale of the first episode, through the miniscule life that's documented as the programme progresses, it's a jaw-dropping experience. It's also a very, very accessible one. Thanks to a diligent, warm narrative from Sir David Attenborough, there's plenty of fact married up to the sheer spectacle of The Blue Planet, although in many ways the stunning photography almost needs no accompaniment. It's timeless work, too, with immense rewatch value, uncovering both life that's never been photographed previously while charting the habits of the more familiar. Icing The Blue Planet's cake is a series of short pieces documenting just how some of the incredible pictures were captured, and these are almost as interesting as the main feature. Enough of those superlatives, though. Because The Blue Planet simply demands to be seen and enjoyed. Prepare, like many before you, to be mesmerised. --Simon Brew

As you would expect from David Attenborough July 18, 2010 Roy Peters As one would expect from a nature series presented by the master: David Attenborough, who not only knows what he's talking about, he also shows us our world over and above our planet's oceans and seas as we have never seen them before in a way that we can all understand. Incredible photography, sensational film footage and accurate presentation of the facts that we all need to know to give us mere mortals a glimpse of a part of our world that we have only recently come to understand (We know more about the surface of Mars than we know about our deep oceans) so this is an educational video at it's very, very best that is a must for us all. There is only one very small complaint: Some of the video footage is repeated in later programs so one thinks "I've seen this before" but in fact, it's used to highlight certain points so I think we can forgive that, as some of this footage is extremely difficult to achieve. All in all, a fascinating, sensational and most education series.
David AttenboroughDVDs June 27, 2010 S. Sanders (Surrey, England) I dont think you can go wrong with any of David Attenborough's dvds. I bought this for my son who asked for it for his birthday. Have now bought the whole collection. A totally intriguing dvd. Could not fault the delivery service.
absolutely amazingly fantastic!! June 13, 2010 atsvenus Amazing unbelieveable value for money for starters...the box is beautifully presented and the four discs are amazing. My son (4) is enthralled everytime he watches it, so much so that he has decided he wants a career as a diver/camera man!! Totally love it!!
Classic David Attenbrough + BBC documentary result!!
Absolutely brilliant June 11, 2010 Bryn (Denmark) Skilfully made and highly educational!
If you're into HD and all that this is something you should get, as the quality of filming is excellent. I don't really know that much about HD, but perhaps blu-ray version would be even better?? I've got the regular DVD the quality of this is awesome, so either way you won't be let down.
Salute the Master May 1, 2010 JayJayDee (Allovertheworld) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The contents of this set are well described on these web-pages. This world of ours is more than 70% submerged by salt water!
I would just like to add a recommendation that (with respect to Kronkite and Frost) those of us who have witnessed David Attenborough's output over the past fifty years would surely elevate him as the media communicator 'par excellence' in the history of visual entertainment.
If the modern interest in environmental issues has any traceable origin in individual human endeavour then David Attenborough is at the top of the pyramid of those who have popularised the rightful sense of humility that we must express towards the planet we are fortunate to grace (or disgrace) for a few short decades!
