Only for Potter fans... September 8, 2010 Spin My son and I enjoy the Lego games immensely. But not being Potter fans this game baffled us. Not an easy game to play if you have never read the books or seen the movies. For example, your spells and upgrades are in mock latin and I for one have no idea what they are. Further, the game relies on your knowledge of the characters. And without this knowledge of character and plot the puzzles are damn near impossible to solve. (I think even Potter fans will have difficulty understanding the logic of some puzzles). I suppose its a great game for Potter fans, but if like me you managed to avoid the Hype of the films and books, you should avoid this game. Its baffling.
Great fun for Harry Potter lovers August 19, 2010 Mr. Joshua A. J. Bower (UK) OVERVIEW
A brilliant game for Harry Potter & Lego game fans.
POSITIVES
+ Explore Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley and many many more familiar locations!
+ Play as all your favourite Harry Potter characters
+ Cast all your well known spells in the first four stories
NEGATIVES
- Selecting spells is not quite as easy as using the force was in Lego Star Wars
- The hub of the game (Hogwarts/Hogsmeade) is not as easily navigatable as the Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars
However, the negatives are only small things and any Harry Potter fans will love this game.
good but glitchy August 18, 2010 Karon (Lancs United Kingdom) this game was fantastic to play. it kept me entertained and interested all the way through
it maintains all the features of the old lego games and brings in its own personal "harry potter" touch
i would recomend this game under one condition...
the person i recomend it too must be exceptionally patient.
i have played through this game now and have reached 98.8% completion to find that there is a game glitch meaning if i want to complete it i have to start again. this is annoying beyond belief as with 100% completion comes a hefty some of xbox gamerscore.
i researched this online and this is just one of many game stopping glitches that people have run into
comment for lego... for harry potter years 5 6 7 make sure these glitches arent there otherwise you will have a significant number of angry customers.
other than this the game is fantastic.
Frustrating at times August 13, 2010 Annette Gisby (UK) I love anything Harry Potter so I was looking forward to getting this game. I've never played any other Lego games before so I can't compare with what those others are like.
The game is very enjoyable and wandering around Hogwarts, Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade in Lego form is a lot of fun.
I don't know whether I am just terribly bad at playing it, but some parts of it I couldn't even finish. In Year 2, Tom Riddle's Diary, I just could not get onto the right hand side platform to get the potion ingredient no matter what I did. I even recurited the husband to help and neither of us could get there so after 5 hours we gave up and the game took us straight onto Follow the Spiders, so we couldn't even go back and try. Other levels let you try again if you stopped in the middle.
A lot of the parts where you needed the character to jump to access things was again frustrating. In the Quidditch World Cup it took me hours to get a character to jump over the flames and made it a lot less enjoyable for me. I was also terrible at getting past Draco Malfoy in the snowball fight in Hogsmeade (husband rescued me on that one!)
I did like it, but because of the frustrating parts I don't think I'll be replaying it over and over again like I have done with other games. It's fun trying to collect all the characters, gold bricks etc., but I just wish there weren't so many jumping parts which I seem so hopeless at.
I ended up in the classroom of doom (below one of the Charms classrooms) but that one I did manage to escape, unlike a lot of other people.
Another great Lego adventure July 28, 2010 Kat (UK) Lego Harry Potter is another great addition to the Lego games collection. You play through the stories of the first four years at Hogwarts collecting items, killing bad guys and learning magic on the way. Thankfully they have introduced a spilt screen mode so when playing two player you can both investigate different areas without inadvertently killing each other (as often happened in previous games), if you have played the Lego games before you know the drill, you play the stories as the set characters but can not collect everything or enter all areas until you have learnt all the skills and collected many of the characters, so if you want to complete the game you play the whole thing again on free-play!
This game is fun, easy to play, and enjoyable. Hogwarts is huge and there are lots of secret rooms and hidden levels to explore and discover. If this is your first Lego game I strongly recommend star wars, Batman and Indiana Jones.
