Amazon.co.uk Review
Iron Man, outside of comic-book circles, was never one of the better-known superheroes waiting to enjoy a big screen adventure, but in the aftermath of Jon Favreau’s superb movie, anticipation for 2010’s Iron Man 2 is rightly sky-high.

Fortunately, there’s the small matter of the excellent Blu-ray release of the first film to enjoy while the wait goes on, which offers reference-quality picture and audio to enjoy. And those combine to bring across one of the most downright-enjoyable superhero movies of recent times. Robert Downey Jr is an inspired casting choice as Tony Stark, whose genesis as Iron Man is covered by this first film. Generous with its humour and yet never afraid to throw a spectacular action sequence at the screen, there’s nonetheless real grown-up thinking sitting underneath Iron Man, and the film benefits enormously from it.

Most Blu-ray recommendations inevitably promote the 1080p picture quality of a movie as one of its major selling points. That’s certainly fair here. But also, the audio work on the Iron Man disc is superb. This is a full surround sound track in every sense, with the soundstage ramping up the noise and the intensity as the action takes hold, but also proving its quality in the film’s slower moments too. Backed up with extra features in high-definition too, it’s a rounded and very welcome Blu-ray release. --Jon Foster

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Blu Ray   September 4, 2010
Hairy Ginger One
This is probably the best superhero film if not the best film I have ever seen, and that's saying something as I'm a huge superhero and film fan. I was excited about this film before I even saw the trailers and despite it looking amazing I had my doubts it would be able to surpass the Spidey movies... I was wrong.
The plot is a perfect modernised origin story for Iron Man, with perfect pacing, brilliant set pieces and believable characters. The action scenes are brilliant and I liked the way the "supervillain" was slowly and gradually developed before the big payoff in the final fight. The scenes of Stark creating his first set of armour and then developing upgraded versions were interesting and humourous.
The acting is perfect with Robert Downey Jr cast perfectly as Tony Stark, having never seen him in anything before I wasn't sure what to expect but whatever expectations I may have had, he exceeded them by miles. He carries off the cocky but very likeable Tony Stark naturally and shows great chemistry with the rest of the cast, with Jeff Bridges playing the bad guy really well, seeming to be chummy to Stark at the beginning and gradually throughout the course of the film becoming more sinister.
The picture quality from the blu ray makes this the perfect film to show off your system with and even some of the features are in HD which is a very nice touch. Watching it in 1080p really shows off the effects and makes the scenes in which Iron Man is either fighting or flying even better and more immersive and strong competition for Transformers. The special features on hand are also impressive, featuring interesting features about the development of the character and the film as well as "The Hall Of Armour" which was a nice addition allowing you to pan around a 3d model of each of the sets of armour used in the film and give details about different parts of them.
All in all it's a very impressive blu ray which everyone should have, with above top quality picture and audio and hours of really interesting features that are all worth a look.

5 out of 5 stars Iron man rules!   August 12, 2010

It's a wonderful film, the film arrived on time. Nothing more to say except I think Robert Downey Jr is perfect as Iron Man

Another great Marvel Studios release - my comic book based collection is growing, seemingly exponentially. Nice effects, although a bit silly in parts (he dies about ten times but emerges from the rubble).

The plot is the mindless fun you would expect from this sort of film - a politically charged story of a globally famous, mega-rich CEO of a controversial defence company who is held captive by terrorists who have no intention of concealing the source of their weaponry. Beyond that it's greedy businessman with an insatiable sexual appetite surviving his captivity and fighting against the terrorists' (and his own company at times!) to rectify situations in the Middle-East, almost single-handed, whilst his new questioning of ethics has left the door firmly slammed on his face by the very firm his father founded.

It's by in large mindless fun, but the creation of the suit and subsequent gung-ho tests are a hoot, as is one brilliant mid-air dogfight with a very confused Terence Howard trying to figure out what is going on.

Lots of fun, sequel looks decidedly weaker though.

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie!   July 23, 2010

Just as good as the first Iron Man movie and blu ray lives up to it's expectations.

5 out of 5 stars Blu-ray excelente   July 22, 2010

O filme é ótimo, mistura bem ação e bom humor. O blu-ray, em si, é completo. Se fosse apenas o disco simples já seria uma boa compra, pois há bons extras nele. O imagem do filme me pareceu um pouco granulada, contudo. Recomendo a compra.
